Description
Dante: A Comprehensive Intellectual Biography This authoritative biography offers a fresh account of Dante Alighieri's life and thought before and after his exile in 1302. Drawing on his writings, the book examines the medieval poet's life, including the violent circumstances that shaped him, and explores the development of his work over time. From his early lyric poetry to the Vita nova, Convivio, De vulgari eloquentia, and Commedia, Dante's works are presented as a testament to his passionate humanity. The book describes a journey of the mind, tracing the evolution of Dante's thought as he grappled with the nature of love and maturity. Through this intellectual biography, readers gain insight into Dante's life and work, uncovering an original synthesis that confirms the poet's undertaking as an exploration of what he himself spoke of as "maturity in the flame of love".
