Description
Cyclopedia Exotica by Aminder Dhaliwal is a graphic novel that explores the experiences of a largely immigrant population displaying physical differences from the majority. Through its quick wit and astute socio-cultural criticism, the book tackles issues such as xenophobia, fetishization, and media misrepresentation. The characters in this work are tenderly rendered and their problems are real, making for a relatable and thought-provoking read. The struggle of the cyclops is conveyed through metaphors for race, sexuality, gender, and disability, shedding light on complex ideas about representation and identity. With its humorous candor, Cyclopedia Exotica offers a triumph of storytelling that shines a light on the often-overlooked experiences of those who don't fit the norm.
