Description
Curated Decay: A New Approach to Preserving Cultural Heritage
Caitlin DeSilvey challenges conventional thinking on the conservation of cultural heritage by exploring how we can adopt an ecological approach to preserving vulnerable sites. This book chronicles her travels to places where experiments in curated ruination and creative collapse are underway, highlighting the importance of collaboration with natural processes.
Through case studies from around the world, DeSilvey examines how objects and structures produce meaning not only in their preservation but also in their decay and disintegration. By rethinking our relationship with cultural heritage, we can gain a deeper understanding of how cultural memory is generated and how we can work to preserve it for future generations.
