Five months have passed since the disastrous Year Six School trip to Crater Lake, and Lance's hometown of Straybridge is struggling to recover. A mysterious explosion at the University, a missing test creature, and a mysterious force blocking the town's borders have all contributed to a sense of unease. Lance's attempts to reunite his team have been met with resistance, and his friends seem to be drifting further apart.

As Lance tries to make sense of the chaos, he begins to notice strange occurrences in his own home.
