Description
The Acta of the International Conference on the Patronage of the Este Family, Copenhagen 1987 presents a unique perspective on European history. The Duchy of Ferrara's special situation offers a rare example of dynastic continuity in Humanistic and Renaissance culture. This collection of essays explores the interaction between the cultural policy of the "Signori" and the intellectuals of their court, covering the period from 1441 to 1598. Contributions from various disciplines, including music, theatre, pictorial arts, literature, and history of ideas, provide a comprehensive analysis of this fascinating topic. Through its diverse approaches, this volume sheds light on the complex relationships between power, culture, and intellectual pursuits in Renaissance Italy.
