From a devoted mother to an unfaithful husband, and from well-heeled diners to those at a garden fete, Ayckbourn's observations on human nature are both poignant and darkly comedic.

Each play connects to the next through one of its characters, leading to a series of unexpected events that unfold until the final play, where four people sit alone on park benches. This new edition was published to coincide with the first ever revival of the play, staged at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, on 9 July 2015.
