Description
Commando: A Boer Journal of the Boer War is a first-hand account of the Second Boer war, written by Deneys Reitz, who served in the Boer forces from 1899 to 1902.
The book begins with Reitz's early life as the son of a President of the Orange Free State, before describing his recruitment into the Boer forces at the age of 17. He recounts the early Boer victories and battles, including the famous Battle of Spion Kop, as well as the slow war of attrition against the British Army.
This new edition features the full original text, with a specially prepared introduction by Jan Smuts, as well as 110 footnotes explaining terms, issues, and events for the present-day reader. The book also includes the author's original five footnotes, adding to its historical value and insight into this pivotal conflict.
