Description
The SS France was the last of the great French Line passenger ships to sail from New York. Completed in the early 1960s, she was the national flagship and the longest liner yet built, boasting fantastic interiors, superb service, and exquisite food. Despite her impressive credentials, she ultimately lost out to the speed of jet aircraft. The ship's fortunes changed when it was converted into a cruise vessel, first becoming the indoor France in 1979-80 and later the outdoor Norway. She became the largest cruise ship in the world at the time, an innovator that paved the way for today's mega-liners. The SS France endured until her eventual demise in 2005. Her legacy as one of the greatest ocean liners of the 20th century remains unchanged.
