Description

The Class 55 Deltic locomotives, named after the Napier Deltic diesel engines that powered them, played a significant role on Britain's railways from the early 1960s until their retirement in 1982. These iconic locomotives dominated services on the East Coast Main Line between London King's Cross and Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Today, six examples of the Class 55 can be found in preservation. Photographed by Colin Alexander, who has been fascinated by the Deltics since childhood, these pictures provide a personal and intimate record of the Class 55 locomotives. Supported by the photographs of his friend and fellow enthusiast Ian Beattie, the book showcases the Deltics in various states, including main-line service, withdrawal, and preservation.
