Description

Cisneros, el cardenal de España is a biography that explores the life and ideas of a pivotal figure in Spanish history. Joseph Pérez's detailed research sheds light on the complex and often tumultuous period between 1497 and 1517. The book delves into Cisneros' role as confessor to Queen Isabella, archbishop of Toledo, inquisitor general, and cardinal, as well as his efforts to reform the Church and promote humanism. Pérez examines how these pursuits shaped Cisneros' vision for governance, which emphasized the importance of a monarch serving the public interest. This biography offers a fresh perspective on Cisneros, presenting him as a forward-thinking statesman who was ahead of his time in Europe.
