Description
Chevengur is a revolutionary novel about the transformative power of industry and the complexities of revolutionary ardour and despair. Written by Andrey Platonov, this 20th-century Russian masterpiece is now available in English for the first time. Set against the backdrop of a world undergoing revolutionary transformation, the novel follows two men, Zakhar Pavlovich and Sasha Dvanov, as they embark on a journey across the steppe. Zakhar, a train mechanic, is driven by his belief in the power of industry, while Sasha, an adopted son, is motivated by his desire for revolution. As they travel, they encounter a range of characters, from counter-revolutionaries to visionaries, each with their own unique perspective on the world. This novel is a deeply poetic and profoundly sorrowful exploration of the human experience, one that challenges readers to confront the complexities of revolutionary ideology and the fragility of human hope.
