Description
Charters and Caldicott As War Begins is a fascinating look at one of cinema's most beloved comedy duos. First appearing on British screens in 1938, Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne's characters quickly won over audiences with their witty banter and dry humour. Their popularity led to numerous film appearances throughout the 1940s and early 1950s, including The Lady Vanishes, Night Train To Munich, and Millions Like Us. Despite being part of spy thrillers, Charters and Caldicott are portrayed as bumbling upper-class fools who bring a much-needed comedic relief. This book provides an interesting insight into the origins of these iconic characters and their place in British cinema history, reflecting the country's stiff upper lip in the face of adversity during a tumultuous period.
