Description

Celtic Myth and Religion: A Study of Traditional Belief with Newly Translated Prayers, Poems and Songs provides a comprehensive overview of Celtic mythology and religion. This in-depth exploration covers various aspects of ritual and belief, including the Otherworld and its inhabitants, cosmology, sacred cycles, wisdom texts, mythological symbolism, folklore, legends, and an appreciation of the natural world. The book draws on a range of sources, including archaeology, ethnographic accounts, medieval manuscripts, poetic and visionary literature, and early modern accounts of folk healers and seers. New translations of poems, prayers, inscriptions, and songs from ancient Celtic languages complement the text, offering a unique insight into the indigenous wisdom of the Celtic-speaking peoples. For over three thousand years, Celtic traditions have endured in various forms, making this collection of information a valuable resource for understanding the history and beliefs of these ancient cultures.
