In this tenth outing, the author's signature blend of excellent bridge, entertaining characters and sparkling dialogue is on full display. The Abbot, as ever, makes his acerbic presence felt, while a new visitor from the Vatican authorities brings fresh challenges for the long-suffering fraternity. Meanwhile, another story sees the Abbot paired with an 80-year-old Mother of Discipline at St Hilda's Convent, leading to some entertaining and unexpected partnerships. Regular followers of David Bird's work will know what to expect: a first-rate mixture of bridge, characters and dialogue that is sure to entertain and engage.
