California Dreaming: A Novel

California Dreaming A Novel by Noa Silver Elena Berg's journey to California was one of stories and expectations. Growing up in New England, she had heard tales of her mother's wild youth in the Golden State, where free-spirited hippies once roamed. Now, as an English teacher with Teach for America, Elena finds herself in the Bay Area, eager to inspire a love of poetry and literature in her diverse students. However, her own experiences are complicated by her family's history - her grandfather, a Holocaust survivor, was also a storyteller and teacher who touched many lives. As Elena navigates her new role, she struggles to connect with her students and finds herself disillusioned with teaching. She makes a career change, transitioning into an education technology startup, but questions her decision and motivations. Against the backdrop of the Occupy movement, #MeToo, and California's devastating fire season, Elena must confront the reality of her own identity and reconcile it with the person she thought she would be. This novel is a powerful exploration of identity, community, and the complexities of growing up in America today.
