Description
Gina Yashere's memoir is a lively and humorous account of her journey to success. Born with a birthmark that echoes her grandmother Patience's, Gina was destined to fulfill her dreams. According to family superstition, Patience's powerful legacy was marked by a spot on her neck after being poisoned by jealous sisters. Gina's odyssey took her from growing up as a child of Nigerian immigrants in working-class London to becoming the first female engineer with the UK branch of Otis. She recounts her experiences running from skinheads and facing racist and sexist co-workers, before leaving engineering to pursue a career in comedy. This memoir tells the story of Gina's journey to America, a dream she'd had since childhood, and how she overcame obstacles to achieve success. With humor and wit, Gina shares her intergenerational journey to fulfillment, recalling the lessons learned from her grandmother and the challenges faced along the way.
