Description
In the 1870s, Will Andrews sets out on a journey to find an original relation to nature, leaving behind the comforts of Harvard. He arrives in a small Kansas town, Butcher's Crossing, where restless men seek ways to make money and waste it. There, Andrews befriends a man who shares tales of immense buffalo herds hidden in the Colorado Rockies. Convinced by the tales, Andrews joins an expedition to track the animals down. The journey is grueling, but the reward is a place of paradisal richness. However, as the three men indulge in the hunt, they lose all sense of time, and their actions become increasingly brutal. When winter sets in, the men are snowed in, and when they finally return, they find a world that has been irremediably changed by their actions.
