Description

Brazilian Histories brings together over 300 works and documents from different media, typologies and regions of Brazil, spanning from the 16th to the 21st century. This collection accompanies a major exhibition that explores the multiple and conflicting histories of Brazil, covering art history, social, territorial, cultural and political aspects. The book is divided into seven sections, each offering a unique perspective on Brazilian history. From maps and flags to landscapes and tropics, rebellions and revolts, religions, festivities, land and territory, and portraits, this comprehensive work provides a rich and multifaceted understanding of the country's complex past. Organized by 10 curators from MASP, one of Brazil's leading cultural institutions, Brazilian Histories presents a polyphonic and speculative approach to history, reflecting the diversity and complexity of Brazilian society.
