Description
Biloxi: A Novel by Mary Miller is a tender and gritty tale of middle age, exploring the unexpected turns a life can take. Set in Biloxi, Mississippi, the story follows Louis McDonald, Jr., a man struggling to come to terms with his past after his wife's departure and his father's passing. On a routine trip to Walgreens, Louis meets Harry Davidson, who offers him an overweight mixed-breed dog named Layla. Without explanation, Louis feels compelled to take the dog home, and their lives become intertwined. As they spend more time together, Louis finds himself reevaluating his life and exploring new horizons. Mary Miller's writing is marked by her "sociologist's eye for the mundane and revealing", bringing to life a cast of characters that populate the Gulf Coast with Ann Beattie-like authenticity.
