Description
Suzanne Vale's latest struggles take her to new extremes in this darkly comedic novel. After surviving Hollywood celebrity and rehab, she finds herself facing a new set of troubles when her husband leaves her for a man. With her medication cramping her style, Suzanne makes some drastic decisions - including getting a tattoo, cutting off her hair, and heading to Mexico with an ex-con and a stash of OxyContin. As the "manic" side of her illness takes hold, Suzanne's world descends into surreal psychotic episodes, landing her in a mental hospital. But with the help of her movie star mom, friends, and even her ex-husband, she begins the long journey back to sanity. This roller-coaster ride through manic depression is delivered with fast and furious wit, making for a highly comic and darkly tragic read. A thought-provoking exploration of the highs and lows of mental illness, The Best Awful is a gripping and unflinching portrayal of one woman's struggle to find her way back to herself.
