Johnson Beharry's remarkable story begins in a humble two-bedroom hut in Grenada, where he was born into a large family and grew up with limited resources. Despite these challenges, he persevered, walking three miles to school barefoot and working as a decorator and labourer from the age of 13. In 1999, Beharry made the bold decision to leave his home country and join the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment in England. He served in Kosovo, Northern Ireland, and Iraq, where he demonstrated extraordinary bravery and selflessness on multiple occasions. One such incident, which took place on May 1st, 2004, saw him risk his own life to extract wounded colleagues from a vehicle under attack by enemy fire. Beharry's heroism was recognized with the award of the Victoria Cross in March 2005, despite suffering serious head injuries that required brain surgery. His remarkable story is a testament to the human spirit and a tribute to those who serve their country with courage and dedication.
