Description
In Antoine Volodine's Bardo Or Not Bardo, the boundaries between reality and the afterlife are blurred. This collection of seven vignettes follows characters as they navigate the Tibetan afterlife, also known as the Bardo, where souls wander for forty-nine days before being reborn. As these individuals struggle to find their way, Volodine's unique blend of science fiction, magical realism, and political commentary shines through. His characters' attempts at enlightenment are often hilariously misguided, with some choosing to waste away in the afterlife or rebirth as an insignificant spider. Meanwhile, those still living make a mess of things in their own ways. A moving and humorous exploration of transformations and the power of the book, Bardo Or Not Bardo showcases Volodine's range and ambition.
