Description

Ay-O Happy Rainbow Hell celebrates the vibrant world of avant-garde artist Ay-Ō, featuring artwork from his first major US museum exhibition. This stunning catalog showcases approximately 140 gorgeous illustrations from the Smithsonian's Arthur M. Sackler Gallery and loans from other US institutions. The book includes an essay by Kit Brooks, which provides a biography of Ay-Ō and explores the artist's fluctuating explanations for his rainbow fixation. Additionally, an illustrated essay by Sukeda Kenryō describes his painstaking work to translate Ay-Ō's designs onto prismatic silkscreen prints. The catalog also features a message from the artist himself. Printed on heavy 100# paper with vibrant colors and spot varnish, the book is its own stunning art object, complete with a die-cut dustjacket that reveals the rainbow-printed caseside.
