Description
Authority in Islam: From the Rise of Muhammad to the Establishment of the Umayyads by Hamid Dabashi. This book explores the concept of authority in Islamic civilization from its origins with the rise of Muhammad's prophetic movement. Dabashi examines how this central idea shaped the development of a new political culture, and how it interacted with external historical factors to influence the course of Islamic history. The author delves into the transformation of authority over time, tracing its evolution in pre-Islamic Arab society and its impact on the formation of Islam's principal branches. He argues that the fundamental patterns of authority in Islam were shaped by a complex interplay between internal cultural dynamics and external historical forces.
