Description
The British Broadcasting Corporation's story during World War II is inextricably linked to our own national experience. As Britain's first total war engaged the entire nation, the wireless played a pivotal role in shaping how we understood and remembered these events. At the heart of this narrative are the remarkable voices that defined the BBC's reputation for reliability and truth. From Churchill's fighting speeches to Vera Lynn's iconic performances, these individuals helped shape the way news was disseminated and received during wartime. Meanwhile, coded messages were sent across Europe, while eyewitness testimonies gave a voice to those who had been silenced. Auntie's War is a fascinating exploration of the BBC's role in shaping our collective memory, and its enduring impact on our broadcast culture today.
