Description
A landmark study of abstraction in architectural history, theory, and practice challenges our understanding of abstract forms. Pier Vittorio Aureli argues that abstraction arises from material conditions of building production, rather than formal reduction.
This theoretical study presents abstraction in architecture as a movement driven by modern divisions of labor and social asymmetries. It explores how the logic of capitalism has shaped architectural abstraction, and seeks to resist this trend by examining the ground level of material practice.
