Description

Playtime Aperture 212 by Aperture explores the many definitions of play through photography. This edition focuses on "Playtime," taking its name from the 1967 film by Jacques Tati, and features articles and portfolios that examine how images illuminate, facilitate, and participate in various forms of play. The issue includes interviews with artists Chrisian Marclay and Erwin Wurm about their approaches to humor and improvisation in contemporary art, as well as new work by Sophie Calle. Other contributors include writer Eric Banks, who visits Saul Leiter's studio, and Tim Davis, who examines the art of the photographic one-liner. The book also features portfolios from a range of photographers, including Jo Ann Callis, Kauyoshi Usui, Bruno Munari, James Mollison, and a group of Cambridge University students who used photography to document their campus antics in the 1930s.
