Description
Antonio and Mellida by John Marston was first performed in 1599 by Paul's Company. This play showcases Marston's range as a writer, featuring comic, tragic, satirical, and historical elements. It is based on events from the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. The text draws on a wide range of influences, including Shakespeare, Seneca, Kyd, Nashe, Sidney, Erasmus, Montaigne, Florio, and others. This edition includes an introduction, analysis of staging, and full commentary, based on a collation of all known copies of the 1602 Quarto. The result is a thoroughly modernized format that presents Marston's work in its most accurate form.
