Description

Drawing on location can be a thrilling experience, especially in the world's most remote wilderness. In 2020, Claudia Myatt was appointed Artist in Residence for Friends of Scott Polar Research Institute, and she took her sketchbook on board the Royal Navy icebreaker HMS Protector. The ship sailed through the Falklands, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands, and into the Antarctic, where Myatt sketched life on board and the incredible landscapes they encountered. Every page of this sketchbook is reproduced here, telling the story of a voyage that followed in the footsteps of explorers, whalers, scientists, and adventurers. The result is a unique and captivating record of life on board ship and in one of the most inhospitable environments on Earth. With 142 pages of Myatt's artwork, this sketchbook offers a fascinating glimpse into a remarkable journey.
