Description
A new collection by Russell Thornton brings together poems that explore the intersections of past and present. Water is a bridge for fire to come into the world, and this image animates the driving force behind the poems in Answer to Blue. With clarity, Thornton examines transitional states and the phenomenon of perception itself, pausing at moments of change and uncovering forgotten histories. The collection draws on Greek myths, family stories, and biblical passages, weaving them into a cyclical rhythm that gives way to the transient presence of young children and the death of a parent. This is a response to D.H. Lawrence's question - what can answer to this blueness? - both an answer and a challenge. Answer to Blue is a collection of beauty that contains the seed of something more enduring and sacred.
