Description

African American history is told through 97 original quilts by contemporary artists, tracing the path of 400 years of Black experience in the United States. The quilts explore significant events and cultural milestones, including the first enslaved people brought to the US, civil rights movements, and notable figures such as Muhammed Ali and Maya Angelou. The collection is arranged chronologically, with each quilt providing a unique narrative context for the story behind it. The 69 artists who contributed works to this curated collection offer additional insights into the important stories and histories that shaped the quilts.
