Description

Ancient Messene offers a unique glimpse into the history and archaeology of this fascinating city. Written by its excavator and head of the restoration program, this concise presentation incorporates the latest research findings, making it an ideal guide for visitors to the site. Through informative texts, pictures, and drawings, readers can explore the Theatre, the Agora, sanctuaries, the impressive Stadium with its Palaestra, and investigate the area of funerary monuments. The book highlights the value of an interactive relationship between visitors and the monuments, showcasing how the archaeological site has become a functioning ecological park. The long-term investments in time and effort by those who worked at the site since 1986 have paid dividends, making Ancient Messene a popular international tourist destination within its unspoiled environment.
