Description

Anabasis is a true tale of adventure and endurance in ancient Greece. Despite being advised against joining the army by his friend Socrates, Xenophon sets out with Cyrus the Great on an expedition to gain the empire of Persia.

When their leader is killed in battle, the army loses direction and must fight its way home through endless miles of hostile territory. Through this perilous retreat, Xenophon emerges as a capable leader, making decisions and navigating various difficulties. The account of this epic journey remains an entertaining read that exemplifies Socratic philosophy and clear Greek writing.

Told in straightforward prose, Anabasis is a gripping narrative of extraordinary endurance over hardship, one that has become the stuff of legend.
