Description
A trading post in the heart of Africa, 1880s. Two men, Carlier and Kayerts, are dropped off by a steamboat with little idea how to run it. They spend their days lounging on their veranda, expecting valuable goods to appear at their doorstep.
The arrival of Makola, a native man from a nearby village, brings some much-needed activity to the trading post. He haggles for hours to secure an elephant tusk, while Carlier and Kayerts watch with amusement. However, when illness strikes, it is the native women who nurse them back to health.
As the months pass, the arrival of armed natives from the forest becomes a growing concern. The men's laziness and lack of productivity have left them ill-prepared for the challenges of their new surroundings.
