Description

Gary Fildes' memoir is a story of passion and transformation. After leaving school at 16 to pursue a trade like his friends, he built a life with four children - but secretly nurtured a lifelong dream of exploring the stars. As middle age approached, he took the leap and became an astronomer, founding Kielder Observatory, one of the world's top stargazing sites. This book is part memoir, part nature writing, and part seasonal guide to the night sky. It's a story that will leave you with a newfound appreciation for the wonders of the universe and a sense of wonder at the power of following your dreams. With its unique blend of personal narrative and observational writing, An Astronomer's Tale is a book that will appeal to readers you to get out there and explore the night sky for yourself.
