Description
Almarina is an intense and poignant story about finding love in unexpected places and learning to live again. On a small island off the coast of Naples, Elisabetta Maiorano teaches mathematics to a group of young inmates who arrive at her detention centre each day.
Her life changes when Almarina, a Romanian woman with a personal history etched on her body, arrives in her classroom. Together, they discover a possible pathway to freedom and find solace in their unlikely friendship.
This powerful and intimate novel explores themes of atonement, forgetting, and starting over, giving voice to a loneliness that is universal. Translated by Alex Valente, Almarina is a moving story about two women learning to live again.
