Description
Alfred Hitchcock is a comprehensive introduction to the major British and Hollywood films of this acknowledged giant of film. Spanning his prolific half-century career, which included 53 films, this book explores the critical commentaries surrounding some of his most famous works, such as Rear Window, Vertigo, and Psycho. Hitchcock's career was marked by his dual roles as a professional filmmaker working within a team in Hollywood, and as a media celebrity. This book takes a materialist stance, examining Hitchcock's remarkable body of work within traditions of highbrow, middlebrow, and lowbrow culture. It challenges the popular reputation of Hitchcock as a misogynist through detailed analyses of his most controversial films. By considering Hitchcock's films in this way, the book provides a nuanced understanding of his career and its place within film history.
