Description
Airswimming by Charlotte Jones is a powerful and poignant drama based on the true story of two women who were incarcerated in a hospital for the "criminally insane" due to their illegitimate children. Set against the backdrop of 1920s England, this novel tells the story of Dora and Persephone, who adopt alter-egos to cope with the silence and isolation of their confinement. As they navigate the harsh realities of their situation, Dora and Persephone find solace in their fantasies, creating new identities for themselves as Dorph and Porph. This gripping tale explores themes of identity, survival, and the human spirit's capacity to persevere in the face of adversity. With its unique blend of historical fiction and drama, Airswimming is a thought-provoking and emotionally charged read that sheds light on a often-overlooked period in history.
