Description
Aesthetic Democracy by Thomas Docherty explores the relationship between art and democracy. The author argues that the aesthetic plays a crucial role in establishing social and political democracy, and examines how contemporary criticism is shaped by colonialism and the opposition of east and west. Docherty proposes a new model of cultural critique based on a revitalized notion of "hypocrisy," which he believes can facilitate an ethical encounter with alterity.
