Description
Seamus Heaney's translation of Book VI of the Aeneid brings to life Virgil's epic poem as Aeneas journeys into the underworld. This pivotal moment in the poem has been a constant presence in Heaney's writing, and his translation captures its enduring power. Heaney's deft handling of the original text combines with his signature poetic voice to create a work that feels both faithful to the source material and freshly imagined. His previous translations, such as Beowulf, have demonstrated this skill, bringing ancient poems back to life in a unique and compelling way. This translation is a significant addition to Heaney's oeuvre, offering readers a chance to engage with one of the most iconic works of classical literature in a new and intimate way.
