Description
A debut novel by Lucie Paye, Absence explores the intersection of art and life, delving into the mind of a contemporary painter as he searches for truth in his work. This evocative novel is reminiscent of Stefan Zweig's Letters from an Unknown Woman and Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window.
Structured around alternating sections and point of views, Absence presents a unique narrative voice, blending the painter's internal monologue with first-person letters from his mother. The result is a fractured yet compelling story that challenges the traditional male gaze.
Set against the backdrop of Paris, London, and Mauritius, this novel offers a fresh perspective on the artistic experience, one that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.
