Description
The Trevelyans: A Family Shaping Britain's Past For over a century, the Trevelyan family played a significant role in shaping Great Britain's history. This engaging biography explores the lives and achievements of five men who flourished during a period of enormous social and cultural change - Charles Edward, George Otto, Charles Philips, George Macaulay, and Humphry Trevelyan - and their clever and formidable wives. From humble beginnings in Cornwall to their rise as influential scholars and politicians, the Trevelyans left an indelible mark on British society. This book casts light on their remarkable story, including vivid portraits of its most prominent members. By examining why they chose to use their position to contribute to scholarship and politics rather than simply exploiting it for personal gain, we gain a deeper understanding of this unique family's place in history. Through the Trevelyans' experiences, we can see how one family's values and principles influenced the course of British history over several generations.
