Description

Friederike Mayröcker's Études is a unique and intimate collection of poems that explore the complexities of life, aging, and mortality. Written in almost daily entries, these poems offer a rare glimpse into the poet's inner world, revealing her motivations for writing and the ways in which she experiments with form and technique. Through date-stamped poems that range from notes on everyday experiences to elegies and fragments of memory, Mayröcker transforms the page into spaces of radical openness. This volume is notable for its innovative approach to poetry, combining techniques such as repetition, typography, collage, and quotation to create a distinctive style that traverses the boundaries of literary forms. With Études, Mayröcker lays bare the intimate process of writing, revealing the ways in which she navigates desire, experimentation, and the search for meaning. This important volume strikes an admirable balance between playfulness and serious inquiry, making it a compelling read for anyone interested in contemporary poetry.
