Description
A Time of War by Michael Peterson is a novel that portrays the realities of a futile campaign set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War. The story spans from the White House to the jungle, exploring the complexities of war and politics. The narrative follows Bradley Lawrence Marshall, a diplomat sent to Vietnam as President Johnson's personal emissary, as he navigates the moral cesspool of war. He encounters a range of characters, including General Westmoreland, Corporal Mead, Lacouture, and CIA station chief Wilson Abbot Lord, each with their own agendas and motivations. While the premise may not withstand scrutiny, the novel succeeds in providing an engaging and diverting read, particularly when viewed as a politico-military potboiler rather than a serious exploration of war's issues.
