Description
A Thoroughly Mischievous Person by Alan Kennedy is a fresh and insightful exploration of Arthur Ransome's life and work. Ransome's reputation as a children's author was cemented with the publication of Swallows and Amazons in 1930, but few know about his turbulent career as a journalist and war correspondent in revolutionary Russia. This book sets out to explain Ransome's enduring appeal, combining literary criticism with psychological expertise. Kennedy examines three key challenges that shaped Ransome's life: the loss of his father, his decision to abandon his infant daughter, and the compromises he made during his Russian exile. A Thoroughly Mischievous Person offers new insights into the 'other' Arthur Ransome, making it a valuable read for casual and scholarly readers alike.
