Description

A New Divan brings together twenty-four poets from around the world to respond to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's 200-year-old West-Eastern Divan. This new collection celebrates cross-cultural exchange and explores themes of love, humor, parables, and paradise.

The poems are paired in response to each of the twelve books of the original Divan, with works presented in eleven different languages, accompanied by poetic interpretations written in English. Three pairs of essays also complement the series, shedding further light on the poetic exchanges.

This lively collection offers a lyrical conversation between East and West, bridging cultures, nationalities, and languages. A New Divan is a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of poetry and cultural exchange.
