Description

Austin's ambition takes him far from his roots in Farnworth, a small mill town on the edge of Bolton. He marries Emma, a non-Catholic, and leaves behind the life he knew to become a steam engineer. As the family travels through the cotton towns of early twentieth century Lancashire, they face new challenges with each passing year. Twelve years later, Austin's children are growing up: Annie, Thomas, and Edward. While their eldest and youngest siblings are quiet and well-behaved, Edward is a different story altogether - always looking for fun and often willing to break the rules. Family life is complicated enough, but the onset of war is about to disrupt everything. As the family navigates this new reality, Ged Melia's A Lancashire Story explores the challenges faced by those living through one of the most significant periods in British history.
