Description
A Hero Like Me by Jen Reid and Angela Joy is a powerful picture book that tells the story of a little girl who challenges the world's perception of a statue of a slave trader. In June 2020, the statue was pulled down during an anti-racism protest in Bristol, England, and its replacement, A Surge of Power, gained national attention. The book is inspired by real-life events and tells the story from the perspective of a child who sees the statue every day on her way to school. She knows that the world around her says the man on the statue is a hero, but she disagrees. Instead, she takes action, marching and shouting for change. This inspiring picture book empowers children to have courage to stand up for what is right and be their own heroes. By sharing this powerful story, A Hero Like Me encourages children to think critically about the world around them and to take a stand against injustice.
