Description

Learning to Fly in a 1919 Jenny

This book tells the story of two men who learned to fly in the same Curtiss JN-4 "Jenny" aircraft, just like Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart. Edward O. Southard and William Muir Russel both mastered the controls, take-offs, and landings of this open-air biplane at a time when very few had even seen a plane up close.

Author William H. Bollman combines Southard's photographs with excerpts from Russel's letters to create a unique glimpse into the early days of aviation. The result is a fascinating account of what it was like to be among the first to learn to fly this historic aircraft.
