Description
Tinisima by Elena Poniatowska is a deeply moving portrait of a woman shaped and destroyed by her tumultuous times. Based on ten years of research, this novel tells the story of Tina Modotti's life in an urgent present tense, weaving together short, vivid scenes with cinematic virtuosity. Through her tumultuous relationships and her experiences as a silent screen actress, model, and lover of photographer Edward Weston, Poniatowska brings to life a woman who was both a champion for the Mexican people and a complex, multifaceted individual. The result is a work that flows like blood through the carefully erected factual structure of Modotti's astonishing life story. This novel is a tour de force, offering a profound and deeply moving evocation of its heroine's boundless soul.
